International Women’s Day Observed by ICAR-CCARI, KVK North Goa
ICAR-Krishi Vigyan Kendra, ICAR-Central Coastal Agricultural Research Institute, North Goa, in collaboration with the Village Panchayat Corlim, Tiswadi Taluka, organised International Women’s Day celebrations at Corlim with the theme “Give to Gain,” emphasising the power of reciprocity and mutual support. The programme aimed to celebrate and honour the achievements and contributions of women in society.
Mrs Roshan S. Agarvadekar, Headmistress, Smt. Sunandabai Bandodkar High School, Carambolim, was the chief guest. In her address, she highlighted the crucial role of women in the development of families, society, and the nation. She noted that women are excelling across diverse fields, including education, agriculture, healthcare, entrepreneurship, and leadership. She encouraged women to recognise their potential, pursue education and skill development, and actively participate in decision-making processes for building a progressive society.
Shri Gorakhnath Kerkar, Sarpanch, Corlim Village Panchayat, also addressed the gathering and appreciated the contributions of women in community development and social welfare activities. He emphasised the importance of empowering rural women through education, awareness, and participation in livelihood activities, adding that women play a vital role in strengthening rural economies and maintaining social harmony in villages.
As part of the programme, cultural activities, a cooking competition, and a traditional hair garland–making competition were organised to encourage women's active participation. Essential frontline healthcare professionals from the local community were also felicitated for their dedicated service in safeguarding public health and providing compassionate care to patients. A total of 86 women from Corlim village and nearby areas participated in the event, making the celebration meaningful and inspiring. The programme was coordinated by Dr. N. Bommayasamy, Dr. Sanjay Udharwar, Mr Rahul Kumar, Dr. Nivya K. R., and Mr. Vishwajith Prajapathi.
