Hon’ble President of India conferred ‘National Water Award 2024’ to ICAR CCARI, Goa

    The ICAR–Central Coastal Agricultural Research Institute, Goa, has received “National Water Award 2024” with the First Rank - Best Institution Other than School & College Inside-Campus category, for Excellence in Campus Water Conservation. Hon’ble President of India, Smt. Droupadi Murmu ji conferred this prestigious ‘6th National Water Award 2024’ on 18th November 2025 at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi, in the presence of Shri C.R. Patil, Hon’ble Union Minister for Jal Shakti, Government of India.
 

    This national recognition honours ICAR-CCARI’s pioneering work in water-efficient research, conservation models and climate-resilient agricultural technologies, specifically designed for the coastal and Western Ghats agro-ecosystems. The institute demonstrated integrated approaches to water governance through large-scale rainwater harvesting and in-situ conservation systems, aquaculture using conserved water resources, fish-based Integrated Farming System (IFS) to enhance farm productivity and resource-use efficiency, agroforestry systems led soil and water conservation intiatives and water reuse and recycling models for research farms.
 

    The award was received by Dr. Parveen Kumar, Director, ICAR-CCARI, along with key members of the implementation and research team of Dr. Sujeet Desai, Dr. Trivesh Mayekar and Dr. Uthappa A. R. whose collective technical contributions and field initiatives strengthened the institute’s water stewardship programme.
 

    On receiving the honour, ICAR-CCARI dedicated the achievement to the progressive farmers of Goa, acknowledging their continued cooperation, innovation mindset and willingness to adopt sustainable water-management and farming practices. The institute reaffirmed its commitment to advancing climate-smart agriculture, community water literacy, and integrated ecosystem-based development in the region. With this prestigious national award, ICAR-CCARI stands among India’s leading institutions contributing to the nation’s vision of “Jal Samriddh Bharat — A Water-Secure and Future-Ready India.”
