Farmer awareness cum distribution programme at Vengurla, Maharashtra under SCSP

    Awareness cum distribution programme under the Scheduled Caste Sub Plan (SCSP) was organised on 8 May 2026 at Kelus, Vengurla, Sindhudurg, Maharashtra. A total of 18 farmers, including 3 female and 15 male farmers, participated in the programme. Dr. Sreekanth GB, Senior Scientist (FRM), ICAR–CCARI, Goa, briefly informed the participants about various technologies developed by ICAR-CCARI, Goa and created awareness regarding the benefits and implementation of the SCSP scheme. He also discussed sustainable fisheries practices and the importance of conserving estuarine ecosystems for livelihood security.As part of the programme, essential inputs such as fishing nets, crates, seeds, trolley and bulletin on cashew farming and management were distributed to the farmers to support their farming activities. A field visit was also conducted at the Kelus estuary to observe the fisheries related activities carried out in the estuarine ecosystem. During the visit, Dr. Sreekanth provided valuable information regarding ecosystem services and the ecological importance of estuaries in sustaining fisheries resources and coastal livelihoods.The participants actively interacted during the programme and appreciated the efforts of ICAR–CCARI in supporting the farming community through awareness generation and input support. The programme was coordinated by Dr. Sreekanth GB, Mr. Mrudul Pendurkar (YP1, CCARI Goa), and Dr. Umesh Pendurkar (ALDO, Kochara, Vengurla).
