Training-cum-input distribution programme on Cashew under TSP Scheme organized by ICAR-CCARI
The ICAR-Central Coastal Agricultural Research Institute (CCARI), Goa, organized one day training and input distribution programme focused on Cashew under the Tribal Sub Plan Scheme sponsored by the Directorate of Cashew Research (DCR), Puttur, Karnataka, held on November 18, 2025, at Vantem Village of Sattari Taluka, North Goa. Shri Vishwanath Gawas, ZAO Sattari welcomed the farmers, officials, and scientists. He highlighted departmental schemes for horticulture crops cultivated in the vicinity. Dr. Akula Chinapolaiah, Senior Scientist, ICAR-CCARI, Goa, provided an overview of the institute’s activities and achievements with emphasis on cashew research and cultivation practices as well as new technologies available to support farmers. He emphasizes the benefits of intercropping in plantation crops and good agricultural practices as a means to generate additional income. Shri Omar de Souza, Technical Officer, ICAR-CCARI, Goa stressed the importance of high-quality planting material and the package of practices for cashew cultivation and post-harvest management to achieve good yields. Soil sample collection was demonstrated to the farmer participants by the ZAO officials. Agricultural inputs such as pruning saws, koitas, gamelas, vermicompost, and cashew grafts (Goa Cashew 4) were distributed to 30 beneficiaries from the scheduled tribe community. The program concluded with a vote of thanks proposed by Shri Omar de Souza. The programme was coordinated by Dr. Akula Chinapolaiah, Senior Scientist, ICAR-CCARI, Goa, Shri Omar de Souza, Technical Officer, ICAR-CCARI, Goa, and Mr. Sidhant Haldankar, Research Assistant, AICRP-Cashew with the support of Shri Vishwanath Gawas, ZAO Sattari, and his team.
