Demonstration and distribution programme on Strip Column Drier for Food Processing under SCSP
A demonstration and distribution Programme under the Scheduled Caste Sub Plan (SCSP) was organized for farmers from Deepasthambam Society, Usgao, Ponda, at ICAR-CCARI, Goa, on 14 January 2026. The programme focused on demonstrating the functioning of a strip column drier for the processing of food and fish products. A total of 10 farmers (2 male and 8 female), participated in the programme. Scientists and technicians of ICAR-CCARI demonstrated the operation and maintenance of the strip column drier and explained its potential applications in the preparation of value-added food and fish products. The farmers were encouraged to effectively utilize the equipment to enhance product quality, improve shelf life, and generate additional income, thereby strengthening their livelihoods. Dr. Manohara K.K., Director (In-Charge), ICAR-CCARI, appreciated the active participation of the farmers and emphasized the importance of value addition in food products as a means to improve income generation and livelihood security. Dr. Solomon Rajkumar, Sr. Scientist (Livestock Products Technology), advised the farmers to customize the operations of the equipment for processing both food and fish products to ensure maximum utilization and efficient value addition. Dr. Akula Chinapolaiah, Sr. Scientist (Spices, Plantation, Medicinal and Aromatic Plants) briefed the farmers on the processing of horticultural crops. The farmers expressed their sincere gratitude to the institute for its continuous efforts in technology development and for supporting initiatives aimed at improving farmers’ livelihoods. The programme was coordinated by Dr. Sreekanth GB, Sr. Scientist (FRM) and Dr. Shirish Narnaware, Sr. Scientist (Veterinary Pathology), along with Mr. Mrudul Pendurkar and Smt. Sonali Desai, Young Professionals, ICAR-CCARI, Goa.
