ICAR-CCARI Goa Conducted a Training on Poultry Farming and Input Distribution to SC Farmers in Talluru, Karnataka

ICAR–Central Coastal Agricultural Research Institute, Goa organized a training on “Scientific Management of Backyard Poultry” at Talluru, Udupi district of Karnataka on 10 December 2025. The programme was conducted under Institute Scheduled Caste Sub Plan (SCSP) with the aim of enhancing livelihood opportunities for resource-poor households through improved and scientific backyard poultry practices. A total of 34 Scheduled Caste farmers, including 28 women and 6 men participated enthusiastically in the training. During the technical sessions, Dr. Udharwar Sanjaykumar Vithalrao, SMS (Animal Science), provided hands-on guidance on the scientific management of chicks, growers, and layers. He also emphasized proper housing systems, balanced feeding practices, and essential health care management to ensure higher productivity and reduced mortality. Dr. Amiya Ranjan Sahu, Scientist (Animal Genetics and Breeding), delivered detailed insights on hatchery operations, brooding management, and efficient marketing strategies for eggs and poultry birds, with a focus on improving farmers’ income generation.  As part of the programme’s input support initiative, a total of 550 Giriraja poultry birds and 2.5 tons of layer feed were distributed to 25 beneficiary farmers to promote scientific rearing and strengthen backyard poultry units at the village level.
