A. 17-09-2025

ICAR CCARI launched ‘Swachhata Hi Seva 2025’ Campaign #SHS2025
ICAR CCARI, Goa launched Swachhata Hi Seva 2025 campaign with theme ‘Swachhotstav’ (स्वच्छोत्सव) on 17.09.2025 a Swachha Bharat Mission Initiative. All staff members of the CCARI taken Swachha Bharat pledge administered by Hon’ble Secretary of DARE and DG of ICAR, Dr. M. L. Jat ji to all the ICAR staff across country on inaugural day of this fortnight long cleanliness campaign. Institute has planned various activities for these 15 days’ campaign with ‘Mission Swacchata 365’ committee and staff members. The banners with SHS 2025 message with theme ‘Swachhotstav’ were displayed on each gate of the ICAR CCAR & KVK office. The messages are also displayed on the websites and social media pages of Institute on this occasion as social media campaign for awareness creation among the general public. A Swacchata run to promote cleanliness and fitness is also organised for staff. Also, as a part of #Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam campaign, a tree plantation drive with sixty-five cashew grafts is conducted in Farm ‘C’ of the Institute.

Transformation of Cleanliness Target Units (CTUs) – Identification, Mapping & Clearance of Black Spots in/around Institute Campus
1. Identification & Mapping of Black Spots: surveyed different sections of the campus and adjoining areas. Potential black spots/areas prone to accumulation of waste were identified and mapped for focused action.
2. Clearance & Cleanliness Drive: Identified black spots were taken up for cleaning with active participation from staff and Contractual workers. Waste materials and unwanted vegetation were removed systematically, and awareness about prevention of recurrence was created among stakeholders.
3. Awareness & Sensitization: Staff members were sensitized about maintaining cleanliness and ensuring that such spots do not re-emerge in future. Emphasis was laid on proper segregation of waste, regular monitoring, and individual responsibility for sustaining cleanliness.
4. Outcome: All identified black spots within the premises were successfully cleared.

Engagement with School Children – Painting/Drawing Competition at Madkaikar Navchaitanya High School, Corlim
As part of the ongoing Swachhta Hi Seva 2025 campaign, ICAR CCARI organised a Painting and Drawing Competition on the theme of cleanliness and environmental awareness at Madkaikar Navchaitanya High School, Corlim under the support of Headmaster Shri Gurunath Naik. A total of 40 students (15 boys and 25 girls) enthusiastically participated, showcasing their creativity on topics such as waste management, hygiene, and conservation. The event helped raise awareness about the importance of cleanliness in daily life and motivated students to act as ambassadors of a cleaner and greener India. Best paintings were awarded with the prizes. The programme was coordinated by Shri Rahul Kulkarni (Asst. Chief Technical Officer) and Shri Payak Padkar (Technician), from ICAR CCARI.

ICAR – CCARI and ICAR- KVK, North Goa: Advocacy Activities – Swachhata Samvad
A Swachhata Samvad was organized by ICAR CCARI and KVK, North Goa during #SHS 2025 under theme ‘Swachhotsav’ on 20th September 2025. The event witnessed active participation from 45 individuals, including 11 male and 34 female participants. Dr. N. Bommayasamy, Senior Scientist and Head, ICAR - KVK, North Goa, addressed the gathering with a compelling talk on the significance of cleanliness. He emphasized the vital role of Swachhata (cleanliness) in ensuring a healthy and sustainable environment in our daily lives. Participants were sensitized about individual responsibilities in maintaining hygiene at home, workplace, and in public spaces. The session also highlighted the link between cleanliness, public health, and agricultural productivity. The interactive discussion encouraged community involvement and behavioral change towards a cleaner India.

Safai Mitra Suraksha Shivir at CCARI under #SHS2025
A Safai Mitra Suraksha Shivir (Preventive Health Check-Up Camp) for housekeeping and sanitation workers was organised at ICAR Central Coastal Agricultural Research Institute, Goa Swacchata Hi Seva 2025 campaign. Dr. Juhi Kumari (MBBS), Authorized Medical Attendant of CCARI explained self-cleanliness and its importance. At health check-up camp, she examined all the Safai Mitra for blood pressure, blood sugar and body weight etc. The proper advice for improving the health condition was given to individuals based on their health parameters. Total 25 Safai Mitra benefited with this this health check-up camp.
Shri Vinod Ubarhande, Nodal Officer #SHS, coordinated the Safai Mitra Suraksha Shivir and interacted with all housekeeping and sanitation workers of the institute and briefed about the purpose of said Health Check-Up Camp under the theme "Swachhotsav". Institute clinic is made accessible to all the contractual workers of the campus for health check-up with basic medicines at the ICAR CCARI, throughout year. Smt. Lizette Noronha and Shri Datta Velip assisted for the successful conduct of this programme.

Human Chain – Symbolic Event to Raise Awareness on Cleanliness under #SHS2025
A Human Chain – a symbolic event to raise awareness on Cleanliness and the “Reduce, Reuse and Recycle” theme of Mission LiFE was organised at ICAR-Central Coastal Agricultural Research Institute (CCARI), Goa as part of the ongoing Swachhta Hi Seva 2025 campaign on 22nd Sept. 2025. The event aimed to sensitise staff and general public about their collective responsibility towards maintaining cleanliness and promoting sustainable waste management practices.
The participants formed a human chain outside the institute campus, displaying placards and slogans related to cleanliness, waste reduction and recycling to emphasise the importance of individual and collective action for a cleaner and greener environment. This symbolic gesture reflected CCARI’s commitment to the objectives of Mission LiFE and its efforts to create public awareness, reinforcing that together we can achieve the goal of a clean nation.

Clean Green Utsav - Mega Cleanliness Drive under #SHS2025
A ‘Clean Green Utsav - Mega Cleanliness Drive’ was organised jointly by ICAR-Central Coastal Agricultural Research Institute (CCARI), Goa and Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) North Goa as part of the ongoing Swachhta Hi Seva 2025 campaign. The initiative aimed to create awareness among staff and the public on maintaining clean surroundings by conducting cleanliness drives at different locations.
Under the leadership of the ‘Mission Swacchata 365’ Committee, along with institute staff members, a cleanliness drive was carried out in the public area along the roadside wall of Farm A. Simultaneously, a team from KVK North Goa conducted a cleanliness drive at Karmali Railway Station in coordination with railway staff to spread the message of “Swachhotsav” and highlight the importance of collective responsibility for cleanliness in public spaces. A total of 40 staff members enthusiastically participated, collecting plastic bags, bottles and other waste materials and removing weeds around the campus compound and nearby railway station to improve the environment. The “Clean Green Utsav” demonstrated that active participation by all stakeholders can make public areas cleaner and greener.

Cleanliness Drive at Tourist and Religious Places under #SHS2025
ICAR - CCARI, Goa organised a cleanliness drive at tourist and religious places under the Swachhta Hi Seva 2025 campaign with ‘Swachhotsav’ theme on 24th September. The drive aimed to create awareness among visitors and the general public on the importance of keeping heritage and public spaces clean and litter-free. The cleanliness activity was conducted at the UNESCO World Heritage Site - the Old Goa Church premises, and at the Mahatma Gandhi Circle, locations that attract a large number of tourists and local residents. Institute staff participated in removing litter, plastic waste and transported the garbage from the surroundings.
Officials from CCARI shared messages on responsible tourism and sustainable waste management. This initiative not only improved the appearance of these prominent public spaces but also sensitised visitors about their shared responsibility in maintaining the sacredness and cleanliness of heritage and tourist sites.

Ek Din, Ek Ghanta, Ek Saath – Mass Shramdaan under #SHS2025
On 25 September 2025, ICAR-Central Coastal Agricultural Research Institute, Goa organised “Ek Din, Ek Ghanta, Ek Saath – Mass Shramdaan” at the institute’s residential colony area during Swachhata Hi Seva 2025 campaign with Swachhotsav theme. This special drive aimed to encourage voluntary participation in keeping living spaces clean, healthy and pleasant for all residents. Staff members along with their family members enthusiastically took part in cleaning and maintenance activities across the residential colony. The collective effort included sweeping, removal of plastic waste, clearing of weeds and proper disposal of litter to enhance the cleanliness and hygiene of the area. The children park was also cleaned during this Shramdaan activity. This initiative not only improved the surroundings but also fostered a sense of shared responsibility and community spirit among residents. The voluntary participation of families demonstrated that united actions can lead to a cleaner, greener and more liveable environment for everyone.

‘Best Innovation and Cultural Fest’: Exhibition of Waste Management Innovations and Cultural Activity Promoting Swachhata under #SHS2025
On 26 September 2025, ICAR-Central Coastal Agricultural Research Institute (CCARI), Goa organised the “Best Innovation and Cultural Fest – Exhibition of Waste Management Innovations and Cultural Activity Promoting Swachhata” as part of the ongoing Swachhta Hi Seva 2025 campaign. The programme was designed to combine practical demonstrations of sustainable waste management and creative cultural outreach to strengthen awareness on cleanliness and environmental care. As part of the fest, an awareness programme on “Vermicompost preparation – simple steps to manage organic waste in farms for a sustainable ecosystem” was conducted and demonstrated by a team of experts from KVK North Goa and CCARI at the village Torxem in Pernem taluka. Farmers actively participated in this “Swachhotsav” activity, gaining hands-on knowledge about converting farm waste into valuable compost. Officials from the Department of Agriculture, Government of Goa also attended and appreciated the initiative.
In the second segment of the fest, a cultural activity promoting the importance of Swachhata was presented in the form of a Nukkad Natak (street play) by staff members of the institute. The performance highlighted the need for proper disposal of waste in dustbins and discouraged littering on roadsides, spreading the message of keeping Goa clean and beautiful.
This unique combination of innovation and culture reflected CCARI’s commitment to blending scientific knowledge with community participation for a cleaner and more sustainable environment.

Waste to Art – Creative Use of Waste Material; Murals and Decorative Installations under #SHS2025

ICAR–Central Coastal Agricultural Research Institute (CCARI), Goa organised “Waste to Art – Creative Use of Waste Material; Murals and Decorative Installations” as part of the Swachhta Hi Seva 2025 campaign. This initiative aimed to promote the concept of converting waste into useful and beautiful products, thereby spreading the message of sustainable living and reducing plastic waste. Under this activity, children from the institute’s residential campus were encouraged to collect and creatively reuse discarded materials/waste to produce artworks. They prepared attractive murals and decorative items using their imagination and simple techniques.

The institute also demonstrated its commitment to eco-friendly practices by ensuring that decorations for all its events are made using locally available materials like coconut leaves, bamboo and local flora instead of plastic or thermocol, spreading the clear message of “No Plastic for Decoration.” Through such efforts, CCARI continues to blend innovation, awareness and community participation to build a cleaner and greener environment.

Access to Health Services – Awareness Programme for Safai Mitras and Contractual Workers under #SHS2025

ICAR–Central Coastal Agricultural Research Institute (CCARI), Goa organised an awareness programme “Access to Health Services” under the Swachhta Hi Seva 2025 campaign. The programme aimed to sensitise Safai Mitras and other contractual workers about the health-related social security schemes available to them and their families, especially for emergency medical needs. During the programme, Dr. Juhi Kumari, the Institute’s Authorised Medical Attendant, interacted with the participants and explained the benefits and procedures of government schemes such as Ayushman Bharat and Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (PM-JAY), along with other health-related schemes that provide financial and medical support to workers. She also addressed basic health practices and preventive care measures to improve the well-being of workers and their families. Shri Vinod Ubarhande, Farm Superintendent and Nodal Officer #SHS2025, highlighted the importance of the Employees’ State Insurance Corporation (ESIC) hospitals and their facilities for workers, emphasising how timely access to such services can help in managing health emergencies.

Distribution of Safety Gear to Workers at ICAR–CCARI under #SHS2025

To safeguard sanitation and field workers from occupational hazards, ICAR–Central Coastal Agricultural Research Institute (CCARI), Goa organized a programme for the distribution of safety gear under the ongoing Swachhta Hi Seva 2025 campaign with the theme “Swachhotsav.” The initiative aimed to ensure the health and safety of staff engaged in housekeeping and various field operations.

During the programme, a range of safety equipment was provided to sanitation and farm workers, including rubber gloves, masks, gum boots, climbing equipment with safety cables for coconut climbers, and helmets and goggles for brush-cutting operators. All sanitation and field staff were advised to make regular use of these items while on duty to minimize risks and improve workplace safety.

In addition to distributing safety gear, information on the location and use of fire extinguishers available on campus was also shared with the participants to strengthen emergency preparedness. A total of 25 people, including staff members, took part in the programme. The event was coordinated by Shri Vinod Ubarhande, Nodal Officer #SHS2025, and Smt. Madina Sollapuri along with Shri Ashish Pitre and Shri Datta Velip, ensuring smooth organization and active participation.

ICAR-KVK, ICAR-CCARI, North Goa organizes Swachhta Awareness Program for Sanitation Workers

As part of the “Swachhta Hi Seva” campaign 2025, ICAR-Krishi Vigyan Kendra, ICAR-CCARI, North Goa organized a Swachhta Awareness Program for the sanitation workers of the Corporation City of Panaji. The program aimed at sensitizing the participants on the importance of cleanliness, health, and hygiene, while also creating awareness about various social welfare linkages and government flagship schemes such as Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY), Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation (AMRUT), Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM), and Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana (PMJDY).

A total of 18 sanitation workers, along with Panaji City Corporation officials, actively participated in the program held at the Corporation of the City of Panaji premises. The initiative highlighted the invaluable contribution of sanitation workers in maintaining public health and urban cleanliness and provided them information on welfare benefits and entitlements available to them through government schemes.

Cleanliness Drive at Vadeshwar Temple, Old Goa under #SHS2025

 As part of the Swachhta Hi Seva 2025 campaign, ICAR–CCARI, Goa organised a cleanliness drive at the Vadeshwar Temple, Old Goa. Staff members actively participated in cleaning the temple premises and surrounding areas, spreading the message of maintaining cleanliness at religious places and preserving their sanctity for devotees and visitors. Officials from Canara Bank, Old Goa also joined this awareness programme.

Swachh Bharat Diwas - Prabhat Pheri, Felicitation of Safai Mitras, Recognition of Best Volunteers, Showcasing CTU Transformation, Waste to Wealth Workshop.
 

As part of the ongoing Swachhta Hi Seva 2025 campaign, ICAR–CCARI organized an awareness programme on the theme “Waste to Wealth” at the Institute farm. A total of 26 students (12 boys and 14 girls), accompanied by two staff members from Old Goa School, actively participated in the event. The programme aimed to create awareness about the sustainable reuse of waste generated from farm animals. Students were sensitised to the eco-friendly wastewater treatment facility, the biogas plant and its by-products, and the biomass recycling unit established at the Institute. The initiative highlighted the importance of waste-to-wealth approaches in promoting environmental sustainability and inspired students to adopt eco-friendly practices in their daily lives. The programme was coordinated by Dr. Amiya Ranjan Sahu, Scientist, ICAR–CCARI, Goa.

Swachhata Pledge

As part of the Special Campaign 5.0 for Institutionalizing Swachhata and Minimizing Pendency in Government Offices, the Swachhata Pledge was undertaken today (03-10-2025) by all the officials and staff of ICAR-CCARI, Old Goa through online mode. All employees of the Institute actively participated in the pledge and reaffirmed their commitment towards cleanliness, hygiene, and maintaining a clean and healthy environment within the Institute premises as well as in their surroundings. The event reflected the collective spirit and responsibility of the staff towards the national mission of Swachh Bharat Abhiyan.

Scrap Identification for Disposal

On 06.10.2025, the Mission 365 Committee conducted a scrap identification activity across the ICAR–CCARI premises with the objective of promoting Swachhata and minimizing pendency through the proper disposal of unserviceable and obsolete items. The team inspected various sections, including the institute farm, godown area, fisheries field units, and estate section, where several outdated and unserviceable materials were identified. These items were systematically segregated and disposed of following appropriate procedures. The initiative contributed significantly to maintaining a cleaner, more organized, and efficient work environment within the institute, reinforcing ICAR–CCARI’s commitment to cleanliness and sustainability.

Disposal of Identified E-waste (Printers and Computers)

As part of Special Campaign 5.0 under the Swachh Bharat Mission, ICAR–CCARI, Goa, conducted an e-waste disposal activity on 07.10.2025 under the guidance of the Mission Swachhata 365 Committee. The initiative aimed to institutionalize Swachhata and reduce pendency by systematically disposing of obsolete and unserviceable electronic items, including printers, computers, UPS units, and peripherals. The committee verified and segregated items listed in the E-Waste Register and ensured their safe disposal through an authorized vendor, in compliance with Government of India guidelines. The process was documented with photographs and certified by the committee. This activity contributed to a cleaner, more organized workspace and reinforced the institute’s commitment to sustainable waste management practices.

Identification of Scrap Items and E-waste (Air Conditioner Units)

As part of Mission Swachhata 365, ICAR–CCARI, Goa conducted an activity on 8 October 2025 focused on the identification of scrap items and e-waste, particularly non-functional air conditioner units. The objective of the drive was to locate obsolete and unserviceable equipment and ensure their systematic segregation and disposal, thereby promoting cleanliness and optimal space utilization within the office premises. Members of the Mission Swachhata 365 Committee actively participated in inspecting various sections, identifying and documenting non-functional air conditioners and related accessories. These items were catalogued, tagged, and listed for inclusion in the institute’s scrap disposal register. The initiative contributed significantly to maintaining a clean, organized, and efficient work environment in line with the objectives of Mission Swachhata 365.

Weeding of Physical Files – Administration Section

As part of the Special Campaign 5.0 under the Swachh Bharat Mission, the Administration Section of ICAR–CCARI, Goa carried out a systematic weeding exercise of physical files on 09 October 2025. The objective of the activity was to ensure efficient record management and optimize storage space by identifying and disposing of old, obsolete, and redundant files. During the exercise, a total of 1,609 applications received for the post of LDC during March 2023 were reviewed and weeded out in accordance with record retention guidelines. This initiative contributed to improved organization, enhanced accessibility of active records, and better utilization of office space, thereby promoting cleanliness and efficiency within the section.

Cleaning of Balcony Area of the Institute Building

As part of the Special Campaign 5.0 under Mission Swachhata 365, a cleanliness drive was conducted on 10 October 2025 at ICAR–CCARI, Goa, focusing on cleaning the balcony areas of the Institute building. The objective of the activity was to ensure cleanliness and hygiene by removing dust, cobwebs, and unwanted materials, thereby maintaining a clean and pleasant working environment. Staff members actively participated in sweeping, mopping, and dusting of railings, walls, and window panels. Waste and unwanted materials were systematically collected and disposed of as per Swachh Bharat guidelines. The activity resulted in a cleaner and more organized balcony area, enhancing the overall appearance and hygiene of the Institute premises.
