Field Day on Integrated Nutrient management and Integrated Farming Systems under the ICAR Scheduled Tribe Component (STC) at Arlem, Raia
A Field Day under the Scheduled Tribe Component (STC) programme was successfully organized on 17th October 2025 at Arlem, Raia, Salcete, with the objective of enhancing awareness and capacity among tribal farmers on Integrated Nutrient management (INM) and integrated farming system (IFS) practices. The event focused on the concept and practical application of INM and IFS as a pathway to sustainable livelihoods and ecological resilience.
Dr. Paramesha V., Senior Scientist, elaborated on the concept, components, and benefits of INM and IFS, emphasizing how the integration of crops, livestock, and horticultural enterprises can improve resource-use efficiency, recycle on-farm biomass, enhance soil health, and ensure year-round income and nutritional security. Dr. Shripad Bhat discussed the economic and livelihood advantages of adopting IFS, highlighting its role in income enhancement, risk reduction, and resilience building for small and marginal tribal farmers.
A total of 15 tribal farmers participated in the programme, which was organized and coordinated by Dr. Paramesha V. and Dr. Shripad Bhat under the STC initiative. The event provided a valuable platform for knowledge sharing, interaction, and field-level demonstration of integrated and climate-resilient farming practices. in Kerala. ICAR-CCARI and CWRDM will work on the development of the ecosystem service analysis framework for the estuaries and wetlands.
