ICAR-KVK North Goa Conducts Awareness Campaign on Soil Test Based Balanced Nutrient Management for Sustainable Crop Production

ICAR–Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), North Goa, organized an awareness campaign on soil test based balanced nutrient management for sustainable crop production at ICAR-CCARI, Goa on 02nd May, 2026. The programme was conducted with the objective of creating awareness on the importance of soil testing and balanced application of nutrients for improving soil health, enhancing crop productivity, and ensuring sustainable agricultural practices. The campaign emphasized the need for scientific nutrient management based on soil test reports rather than the indiscriminate use of fertilizers.

During the programme, experts from ICAR-KVK North Goa explained the significance of macro and micronutrients in crop growth and the role of soil testing in identifying nutrient deficiencies and excesses. The resource persons also highlighted the benefits of adopting soil test based nutrient recommendations in reducing input costs, improving fertilizer use efficiency, and minimizing environmental degradation caused by excessive fertilizer application.

The awareness campaign was attended by twenty participants and coordinated by Dr. N. Bommayasamy, Senior Scientist and Head, KVK, North Goa, Dr. Nivya K R, SMS, Floriculture and Landscaping, and Dr. Udharwar S V, SMS, Animal Science.
