Farmer–Scientist Interface and Input Distribution Programme at Vellangallur, Thrissur, Kerala under SCSP

     The Farmer–Scientist Interface and Input Distribution Programme under SCSP was successfully conducted on 11 February 2026 at Mukundapuram Farmer Producer Company Ltd., Vellangallur, Thrissur, Kerala in association with ICAR-NBPGR, Thrissur regional station. The programme witnessed participation of 22 SC farmers (8 men and 14 women). Shri Ajith, Coordinator of the FPO, welcomed the dignitaries and participants, outlined the activities of the FPO, and sought continued guidance and stakeholder support. Shri Jayan, MD of the FPO, expressed sincere gratitude to the ICAR institutes for organizing the programme and emphasized the need for scientific guidance, quality planting materials, and technical support for agro-eco-tourism and aqua-eco-tourism initiatives. Smt. Smitha Krishnan, Assistant Director, Vellangallur, appreciated the initiative and highlighted the requirement for climate-resilient crop varieties suitable for salt-affected soils in the region. Dr. Latha, Principal Scientist, NBPGR Thrissur, detailed the centre’s efforts in conserving and promoting local germplasm and the technologies developed, while Dr. Raghunandan K., Scientist, ICAR-CCARI, discussed integrated farming systems models suitable for coastal regions and coastal crop varieties, including salt-tolerant rice and cashew. Dr. Sreekanth GB, Senior Scientist, ICAR-CCARI, elaborated on aquatic ecosystem services, fish farming, fisheries, and aqua-eco-tourism opportunities, assuring continued scientific and technical support. The programme concluded with the distribution of seeds, tubers, sprayers, fertilizers, bags, and plant growth promoters to the beneficiary farmers, who expressed their sincere thanks and assured wholehearted cooperation in future research and extension activities.
