Interaction with officials at Department of Fisheries, Sindhdurg – Malwan, Maharashtra
A scientific team from ICAR-CCARI visited the Department of Fisheries office in Sindhdurg, Malvan to discuss the estuarine ecosystem services project and SCSP programmes aimed at supporting the local fishing community on 16 September 2025. The team included Dr. Sreekanth G.B. (Senior Scientist, Fisheries Resource Management), Dr. Akula Chinapolaiah (Senior Scientist, Spices, Plantation, Medicinal and Aromatic Plants), Dr. Sanjaykumar Udharwar (SMS, Animal Science, KVK North Goa), and Mr. Mrudul Pendurkar (YP-I). During the visit, the team engaged with Assistant Fisheries Development Officers (AFDOs) and other departmental staff. Discussions centered on the fisheries resources of the Gad and Karli estuaries, local fish landing centers, catch data, and fish-based ecosystem services. The interaction revealed significant opportunities for collaborative efforts in fisheries management, livelihood improvement, and SCSP programme implementation. The visit also helped to strengthen institutional linkages and provided key insights to support the effective execution of research and extension activities.
