Farmer Scientist Interface and animal health camp at Malwan, Maharashtra under SCSP
ICAR–CCARI, Goa, organized a Farmer-Scientist Interface and Animal Health Camp on Coastal Agriculture under the Scheduled Caste Sub Plan (SCSP) at Wayangani, Malwan, Maharashtra, on 16th September 2025, with the participation of 22 farmers, including three women. The programme began with a welcome address and an overview of SCSP initiatives by Dr. Sanjaykumar Udharwar, SMS (Animal Science), KVK North Goa, who also delivered a lecture on health management in dairy animals, poultry, and goat rearing. He, along with Dr. Umesh Pendurkar, Assistant Livestock Development Officer, Vengurla, visited local dairy farms, performed per-rectal examinations on ten buffaloes, and emphasized mineral mixture supplementation for improving productivity. Dr. Akula Chinapolaiah, Senior Scientist, discussed spices and plantation crop production technologies, addressed issues in coconut and arecanut cultivation, and provided field-level advisories. Dr. Sreekanth GB, Senior Scientist, provided guidance on fisheries technologies, assessed local species diversity, and recommended farm pond creation and fish stocking. Input support in the form of planting materials (arecanut, spices, and cashew), amaranthus seeds, animal medicates and vermicompost was distributed to farmers. A field visit to the Achara Fish Landing Centre and Gad estuary provided hands-on insights into fisheries-based livelihoods. The event concluded with a vote of thanks by Shri Ravi Kadam and Mr. Mrudul Pendurkar, with farmers appreciating ICAR-CCARI’s efforts in supporting coastal agriculture and integrated livelihood development. The programme was coordinated by Dr. Sreekanth GB, Dr. Akula Chinapolaiah, Dr. Sanjaykumar Udharwar, Dr. Umesh Pendurkar, Shri Ravi Kadam, and Mr. Mrudul Pendurkar.
