Awareness session on ecosystem assessment, services and modelling of estuaries and coastal ecosystems
An awareness session on ecosystem assessment, ecosystem services, and modelling of estuarine and coastal ecosystems was conducted on 13 March 2026 as part of the Winter School on “Aquatic Ecosystem and Biodiversity Conservation: Genes to Governance” at the Kerala University of Fisheries and Ocean Studies, Kochi, Kerala. The session brought together 21 participants (7 males and 14 females), including scientists, academicians, and research scholars. Dr. Sreekanth G. B., Senior Scientist (FRM), ICAR–Central Coastal Agricultural Research Institute (ICAR-CCARI), Goa, delivered both theoretical and practical sessions focusing on ecosystem assessment, ecosystem services, and modelling approaches for estuaries and wetlands. The programme also included hands-on training on ecosystem modelling software, calculation of ecological indices, and network flow analysis. The participants appreciated the knowledge and practical insights gained during the session and expressed their commitment to strengthening research efforts and contributing to comprehensive ecosystem assessments of estuarine and coastal ecosystems.
