In-service training on organic farming organized by ICAR–KVK, CCARI, North Goa
ICAR-Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Central Coastal Agricultural Research Institute, Ella, Old Goa, North Goa, organised a one-day in-service training on Organic Farming on 21 January 2026 at ICAR-CCARI, Goa with the main objective to upgrade the technical knowledge and practical skills of extension personnel in sustainable and organic agricultural practices.
Dr Manohara, K. K., Director-in-Charge, ICAR–CCARI, Goa, inaugurated the programme as the chief guest. In his address, he emphasised the importance of organic farming in enhancing soil health, ensuring environmental sustainability, and improving farmers’ income. He highlighted the growing demand for organic produce and encouraged extension functionaries to actively promote organic practices among farming community in Goa. Dr. N. Bommayasamy, Senior Scientist & Head, ICAR-KVK, CCARI, North Goa, enlightens sustainable agronomic practices in organic farming such as bio-seed priming techniques, green manuring and green leaf manuring, organic nutrient management, weed management, organic pest and disease management in agricultural and horticultural crops, and organic certification for export and marketing of organic produces in domestic and international market.
Mr Rahul Kumar elaborated on the preparation and use of liquid organic manures such as Jeevamrit, Beejamrit, and Panchagavya, mulching with organic residues, and organic pest and disease management practices. Dr Sanjaykumar Udharwar discussed the role of cow dung–based organic inputs in sustainable agriculture, while Dr Nivya K. R. presented comprehensive insights into organic vegetable crop production practices. As part of the event, participants visited organic input production units and natural farming demonstration fields for leafy vegetables, cowpea, French bean, cluster bean, green gram, finger millet, and maize. A total of 11 extension officials from the ATAM North Goa, Department of Agriculture, comprising 07 male and 04 female, attended the training programme. The program was organised by Mr Rahul Kumar and Dr N. Bommayasamy as Course Directors, coordinated by Dr Sanjaykumar Udharwar and Dr Nivya K. R, with technical assistance of Mr Vishwajeet Prajapati and Shri Aishwar Kumar Tiwari.
