Awareness program on soil test–based nutrient management organized at ICAR-CCARI KVK, North Goa
ICAR–Krishi Vigyan Kendra, North Goa, ICAR–Central Coastal Agricultural Research Institute, Ela, Goa, organized an awareness program on Soil test–based balanced nutrient management on 6th May 2026 at ICAR–CCARI, Ela, Old Goa. A total of 30 women farmers actively participated in the program. The programme was conducted as part of the ongoing Intensive Awareness Campaign on balance use of fertilizers. Dr. Udharwar S. V., SMS (Animal Science), addressed the participants and emphasized the importance of soil testing for efficient and economical use of fertilizers. He highlighted that soil test-based fertilizer application ensures a balanced supply of essential nutrients, improves soil fertility, enhances crop productivity, and reduces unnecessary input costs. He also stressed the importance of integrated nutrient management by combining organic manures, biofertilizers, and chemical fertilizers for sustaining soil health under Goa’s high rainfall conditions. During the program, farmers were sensitized on proper soil sample collection techniques, interpretation of soil test reports, and crop-specific fertilizer recommendations. Emphasis was also given on the judicious use of locally available organic resources such as farmyard manure, vermicompost, and green manuring to improve soil structure and microbial activity. The program provided valuable insights into sustainable nutrient management practices and served as an interactive platform for farmers to share and discuss their field-level challenges. The program is expected to enhance awareness among farmers regarding scientific nutrient management, leading to improved soil health, increased crop productivity, and reduced cost of cultivation in the region. The program was coordinated by Dr. Udharwar S. V. and Dr. N. Bommayasamy.
