Webinar on Ecosystem Service Evaluation of Mangroves and Estuaries
An online webinar on “Ecosystem Service Evaluation of Mangroves and Estuaries” was organized on 6 January 2026 by MS Swaminathan Research Foundation, Chennai, Tamil Nadu featuring Dr. Sreekanth G. B., Senior Scientist (Fisheries Resource Management), ICAR–CCARI, Goa, as the resource person. The session provided valuable insights into the ecological and socio-economic significance of mangrove and estuarine ecosystems, with a special focus on methods for valuing ecosystem services. The webinar drew around 90 participants, comprising nearly 60% students and 40% researchers, scientists, farmers, and fisherfolk, reflecting strong interdisciplinary participation. Attendees represented a wide range of reputed institutions and organizations across India, including BNHS, IUCN, IIFM, TNAU, IIT, IACS, Dr. B. R. Ambedkar University, VCSG UUHF College of Forestry (Ranichauri), University of Kota, WII, Goa University, OP Jindal University, MSSRF, NCCR, and several other colleges and universities. During the interaction, Dr. Sreekanth encouraged participants to undertake research projects on ecosystem service evaluation of estuaries, mangroves, and wetlands, emphasizing their importance for sustainable management and policy planning.
