Training on scientific methods of cultivation of dragon fruit at ICAR-CCARI, Goa

    ICAR–Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), North Goa, organized a one-day training programme on Scientific Methods of Cultivation of Dragon Fruit on 16th July, 2026 at ICAR–Central Coastal Agricultural Research Institute (ICAR-CCARI), Old Goa, Goa. The programme aimed to promote dragon fruit cultivation as a profitable horticultural enterprise by equipping farmers with scientific knowledge and improved production technologies.

    During the training, Dr. Nivya K. R., Subject Matter Specialist (Floriculture & Landscaping), delivered a technical session on selection of suitable varieties, climatic and soil requirements, propagation methods, land preparation, planting techniques, installation of support structures, nutrient and irrigation management, training and pruning, flowering and fruiting behaviour, integrated pest and disease management, harvesting, post-harvest handling, and marketing opportunities. Special emphasis was placed on the adoption of Good Agricultural Practices (GAP) to enhance productivity, improve fruit quality, and increase farm profitability.

    The programme was attended by 20 farmers, rural youth, and aspiring entrepreneurs from different parts of Goa. The participants actively interacted during the sessions, appreciated the scientific approach of the training, and expressed keen interest in adopting dragon fruit cultivation as a high-value horticultural enterprise to diversify their farm income.
