The Agricultural Technology Management Agency (ATMA), North Goa, Directorate of Agriculture, Government of Goa organised the District Farmers’ Advisory Committee (DFAC) meeting at Zonal Agriculture Office, Valpoi, Sattari Goa, on 27 October 2026 to review the progress of agricultural extension activities and deliberate on key agricultural issues and future action plans.
Mr. Prasad Parab, Project Director, ATMA, North Goa, presented the achievements of ATMA from April 2026 onwards and discussed the action plan and Action Taken Report (ATR) of the 15th DFAC meeting. Progressive farmer leaders representing various blocks of North Goa participated in the meeting and shared their experiences, highlighted field-level agricultural challenges, and discussed strategies for strengthening agricultural development and extension activities in the district.
Dr. N. Bommayasamy, Senior Scientist and Head, ICAR–KVK, North Goa, briefed on climate-resilient agricultural practices for adapting to changing climatic conditions, with particular emphasis on moisture-stress management. He highlighted in-situ soil moisture conservation practices, including crop residue mulching, cover cropping, and the adoption of broad-bed-and-furrow systems and ridges and furrows. He also explained the use of micro-catchment techniques, such as V-shaped ditches and circular basins, to improve rainwater harvesting and soil moisture retention. Further, he emphasized seed hardening techniques, the judicious use of antitranspirants to reduce moisture loss from plants, and other crop-specific moisture-stress management practices to minimize the adverse effects of drought and irregular rainfall on crop productivity. The importance of organic weed management in reducing competition for soil moisture and promoting sustainable crop production was also discussed.
A total of 18 Officials from ATMA, North Goa, the Zonal Agricultural Office, and progressive farmers attended the meeting. The participants actively interacted with the experts, exchanged field-level experiences, and deliberated on practical strategies to address emerging agricultural challenges and promote climate-resilient and sustainable farming practices in North Goa.
