District level seminar on cashew organized by ICAR-CCARI, Goa
ICAR-Central Coastal Agricultural Research Institute organized a one-day districtl evel seminar on “Advances in Production, Processing and Value Addition of Cashew” on 26.02.2026 at ICAR-KVK, North Goa. The event was sponsored by the Directorate of Cashewnut and Cocoa Development, Kochi, Kerala.
During the inaugural session, Shri Dattaprasad Desai, Deputy Director of Agriculture, Government of Goa, attended as the Guest of Honour. He emphasized the importance of establishing new plantations with improved high-yielding varieties to enhance per-tree productivity. He also stressed the need to promote organic cashew cultivation using locally available organic inputs.
Dr. Parveen Kumar, Director, ICAR-CCARI highlighted that senile cashew plantations should be replaced with the latest high-yielding varieties to improve cashew productivity in Goa.
Dr. A. R. Desai, Principal Scientist (Retd.), briefly reviewed the cashew research work carried out at ICAR-CCARI and the development of Goan cashew varieties.
During the one-day seminar, expert scientists delivered lectures on highyielding varieties, production technologies, pest and disease management, processing and value addition of cashew. Participants were also exposed to various demonstrationplots, grafting techniques, and nursery management practices.
The seminar was coordinated by Dr. Akula Chinapolaiah, Senior Scientist; Dr. Bommayasamy N., Senior Scientist& Head, ICAR-KVK, North Goa; and Mr. Omar de Souza, Technical Officer, ICAR-CCARI.
A total of 120 participants from Goa attended the seminar, including 20 extension officers from the Goa State Agriculture Department.
