ICAR-CCARI, Goa KVK organized field day on black Bengal goat farming

The ICAR–Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), North Goa, under the ICAR–Central Coastal Agricultural Research Institute (CCARI), Goa, organized a Field Day on Black Bengal Goat Farming on August 26, 2025, at Karmali village, Tiswadi taluka. The programme was jointly held in association with the Department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Services (AHVS), Government of Goa, the Department of Agriculture, and the Agricultural Technology Management Agency (ATMA), North Goa.

Dr. N. Bommayasamy, Senior Scientist and Head of ICAR-KVK North Goa, emphasized the importance of field days in bridging the gap between scientific research and farming. Field Days boost farmers' confidence and encourage them to adopt new technologies and practices that boost productivity, sustainability, and profitability. His point was that these interactions encourage farmers to adopt modern methods and techniques that can improve their operations, boost efficiency, and ensure the long-term viability of their farms.

Dr. Udharwar Sanjaykumar Vithalrao, Subject Matter Specialist (Animal Science), shared insights on the performance and adaptability of Black Bengal goats introduced under the Frontline Demonstration (FLD) programme. He also narrated the success story of Mr. Mario Coasta, a progressive farmer from Karmali. Mr. Coasta has successfully reared a pair of Black Bengal goats (one male and one female) and recently delivered a healthy male kid from the female. His experiences, shared during the programme, offered valuable inspiration and practical guidance to fellow farmers.

The field day drew enthusiastic participation from 20 farmers (Three female and 17 male) as well as seven officials from ICAR–CCARI, the Department of AHVS, and ATMA–North Goa.

The field day was coordinated by Dr. Udharwar S.V., Dr. N. Bommayasamy, Mr. Rahul Kumar, Mrs. Nivya K.R., and Mr. Vishwajeet Prajapati.
