Capacity building and input distribution programme organized at KVK, Devataj, Anand, Gujarat under SCSP
A one-day capacity building programme and input distribution programme was organized by ICAR-Central Coastal Agricultural Research Institute (CCARI), Goa at Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Devataj, Sojitra, Anand (Gujarat) on 22 January 2026, in collaboration with Anand Agricultural University (AAU), Anand, Gujarat. The programme commenced with the welcome address by Dr. R. M. Patel, Subject Matter Specialist (Plant Protection), KVK Devataj, Anand who welcomed all participants, scientists, and faculty members. The inaugural session began with the lighting of the lamp, followed by the University Agricultural Song of Anand Agricultural University, Anand.
Dr. Akula Chinapolaiah, Senior Scientist (Spices, Plantation, Medicinal & Aromatic Plants), delivered a lecture on the production technology of horticultural crops, with special emphasis on medicinal and aromatic plants. He highlighted the importance of diversified farming systems, integrating with horticulture and dairy, to enhance the livelihoods of the farmers. He also stressed the significance of organic vegetable production for household consumption. Dr. Sreekanth GB, Senior Scientist (Fisheries Resource Management), explained the scope of fish cultivation in salt-affected and freshwater bodies. He emphasized that community ponds offer vast potential for polyculture to enhance the income of small and marginal farmers and highlighted the need to develop agro-ecotourism models for sustainable business development.
Dr. D. M. Rathod, Senior Scientist & Head, KVK, Devataj, delivered a lecture on organic and natural farming, highlighting its benefits over conventional farming practices. Dr. R. M. Patel, Subject Matter Specialist (Plant Protection), interacted with farmers on pest and disease management in the coastal agriculture sector of Gujarat. Later, planting materials such as Shatavari, Brahmi, Ashoka, and lemongrass, along with farm inputs including tarpaulin sheets and spades, were distributed to the beneficiaries. The programme was attended by 30 Scheduled Caste farmers and was graced by Dr. I. N. Bhabhor, SMS (Animal Science), Dr. J. H. Bhatt, SMS (Fisheries), and Ms. A. N. Jadav, SMS (Home Science). The event was successfully co-ordinated by Dr. Sreekanth G. B., Senior Scientist; Dr. Akula Chinapolaiah, Senior Scientists, ICAR-CCARI, Goa; and Dr. D. M. Rathod, Senior Scientist & Head, KVK Devataj, Anand. The programme concluded with a vote of thanks proposed by Dr. R. M. Patel.
