Interaction with officials of Department of Fisheries, Kerala and progressive farmers under the ADB Project
An interaction with officials from the Department of Fisheries, Kerala, was held during 17–18 April 2026 to discuss an action plan for capacity building on climate-smart fish farming under an ADB-funded project in collaboration with The Energy and Resources Institute, Goa; during the meeting, Dr. Sreekanth G. B., Senior Scientist (Fisheries Resource Management), shared the project objectives with Smt. Smita R. Nair, focusing on promoting climate-smart fish farming in the coastal districts of Thrissur and Kannur, while discussions with Dr. Seema C., Deputy Director (Fisheries), Thrissur, led to suggestions to include sessions on cage culture, pen culture, pond culture, biofloc, shrimp farming, and climate-resilient integrated fish farming in the programme for farmers; field visits and interactions with progressive farmers were also conducted on 19 April at Shri Sudharman’s shrimp farm in Chapara, Thrissur, and with cage fish farmers Shri Yeju K., Shri Shaji, and Shri Kannan at VP Thuruth, where participants appreciated the initiative, assured their cooperation, and recommended technical support in feed management, multi-species fish culture, integrated fish farming, and agro-eco-tourism, and the programme was coordinated by Dr. Sreekanth, Shri Trivesh Mayekar, Scientist (Fish Genetics and Breeding), Dr Elroy Pereira, Assoc. Fellow, TERI and Mr. Dilshad, Project Coordinator.
