ICAR-KVK North Goa conducted Training on Silage preparation cum inputs distribution under STC

 

ICAR-Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), North Goa, ICAR-CCARI, Goa, conducted a training session on Silage preparation cum input distribution program for scheduled tribe farmers of Cumbarjuva under the KVK-STC scheme on March 21, 2025 at the KVK, North Goa.

Dr. N. Bommayasamy, Senior Scientist and Head, ICAR-KVK, North Goa, He interacted with the farmers and emphasized the market opportunities for silage in Goa. He encouraged farmers to grow maize fodder, particularly the African Tall variety, which is well-suited for silage production. He also distributed sprayers, shade, kurpi, pickaxe, nursery tray and buckets, etc. to 15 farmers comprising 9 women and 6 men under KVK-Scheduled tribe Component (STC).

Dr. Udharwar S.V., Subject Matter Specialist (Animal Science), provided a comprehensive presentation on silage-preparation, highlighting its nutritional value and its importance in feeding dairy animals. He also conducted a step-by-step practical demonstration of the silage preparation process, focusing on its role as a fermented feed for off-season use. In addition, Mr. Rahul Kumar, Subject Matter Specialist (Agronomy), shared valuable insights into the agronomic practices of growing maize fodder, including cultivation techniques that enhance the production of quality silage.

The event was coordinated by Dr. Udharwar S.V., Dr. N. Bommayasamy, Mr. Rahul Kumar, Mr. Rahul Kulkarni, and Mr. Vishwajeet Prajapati. This training session not only provided essential knowledge on silage production but also supported the scheduled Tribal farmers with the necessary tools to improve their agricultural practices and livestock management.
