Hon’ble CM of Goa Releases ICAR-CCARI & NAARMs policy papers on Agricultural Development and Agroecotourism
Hon’ble Chief Minister of Goa, Dr. Pramod Sawant, who also serves as the Chairman of the Goa Institution for Future Transformation (GIFT), released following two policy papers prepared by ICAR-CCARI and ICAR-NAARM during the 2nd meeting of GIFT on 21st March 2025.
1. VIKSIT GOA 2047 – Revitalizing Agriculture and Allied Sectors for a Self-Reliant Goa.
2. Promotion and Regulation of Agro-Eco-Tourism in Goa.
These documents aim to provide a strategic roadmap for sustainable agriculture, livestock and fisheries sector and agroecotourism in the state.
GIFT, modeled after NITI Aayog, serves as a think tank supporting the state government in policy formulation, sustainable development, and strategic planning. The event was attended by key dignitaries, including the Chief Secretary, Secretaries to the Government of Goa, Directors of ICAR-CCARI, CSIR-NIO, BITS Pilani Goa, IIT Goa, NIT Goa, GM NABARD, the Commissioner for Persons with Disabilities, and officials from the Directorate of Planning, Statistics & Evaluation. Scientists and technical officers from ICAR-CCARI and ICAR-NAARM also participated in the discussions.
A brief presentation on the policy papers was made during the meeting. The Chief Minister congratulated the authors of the policy papers and highlighted the importance of implementing the policy recommendations. Key suggestions discussed included the establishment of a Seed Certification Agency for Goa, the development of a Biosafety Laboratory, the revival of Khazan lands and development of Khazan tourism, strengthening of the livestock sector, and the launch of Mobile Ambulatory Services for livestock. Department of Planning, Statistics & Evaluation, Government of Goa, coordinated the event.
The discussions highlighted the state government's proactive approach toward promoting innovation and sustainability in agriculture and agroecotourism. Emphasizing the importance of collaboration, the event brought together research institutions and policymakers to explore strategic initiatives that can contribute to long-term progress and resilience in the sector.
The event, coordinated by the Department of Planning, Statistics & Evaluation, Government of Goa, marked a significant step towards shaping the future of agriculture and agroecotourism in the state.
