ICAR-CCARI, Goa Organized a Training-cum-Distribution under AICRP on Pig for Farmers of Maharashtra
ICAR-CCARI, Goa organized two days Training-cum-Distribution program on “Scientific Pig Farming” under Tribal Sub Plan of AICRP on Pig during 27-28 February, 2025. Total 17 participants from Palghar, Maharashtra attended the training. In the inaugural address, Dr. Parveen Kumar, Director highlighted about the potential and different aspects of scientific pig farming that can be profitable to farmers by adopting the low-cost rearing and integrated farming practices. Dr Amiya Ranjan Sahu, PI of AICRP on Pig briefed the participants about the organized commercial piggery farming and proper shelter management against climatic stress. Dr. Shirish D. Narnaware (Section in-charge, Animal and Fisheries Science) emphasized that farmers should follow strict vaccination and deworming measures to avoid disease incidence and mortality in the farm. Various lectures were delivered on breeds of pig and breeding practice, management of newborn piglets, housing, feeding, reproductive care, stress management, health care and disease prevention, integrated farming with pig components, processing of pork by the scientists of the institute. Practical demonstrations were arranged on deworming, vaccination and routine farm management practices. An interactive session was also conducted with the scientists and farmer trainees. Piglets, feed and medicinal supplements were distributed to all the beneficiaries. Dr. Amiya Ranjan Sahu, Dr. Gokuldas P.P and Dr. Nibedita Nayak coordinated the training programme. Ms. Samradni Rohit Paigankar, Mr. Kiran Hangaragi and Ms. Vedika Kudalkar were associated with registration of participants, hall arrangements and other activities during the training and distribution of piglets.
