ICAR-CCARI Nominated Farmers Received IARI-Innovative Farmer Award -2025
The ICAR-Central Coastal Agricultural Research Institute (CCARI), Goa, proudly nominated two farmers who were honoured with the prestigious IARI-Innovative Farmer Award at the Pusa Krishi Vigyan Mela (PKVM) 2025. The event, organized by the ICAR-Indian Agricultural Research Institute, took place on 24th February 2025 with the theme ‘Unnat Krishi—Viksit Bharat.’
Mr. Kamlakant Savlo Tari, a progressive dairy farmer from Sikeri, Bicholim, North Goa, was recognized for his exceptional work in conserving and maintaining over 5,500 stray cattle. He has pioneered sustainable farming practices by integrating vermicomposting and natural farming techniques, including the use of cow urine and dung as organic fertilizers, enhancing soil fertility and ecological balance.
Mr. Nagaraj Mohan Naik, a progressive farmer from Kagal village, Kumta, Karnataka, received the IARI-Innovative Farmer Award for his significant contributions to the conservation and cultivation of over 600 indigenous paddy varieties. His efforts in preserving traditional crop biodiversity exemplify the application of agroecological practices, promoting both sustainability and resilience in agriculture.
Both of these exemplary farmers received their prestigious awards from Dr. Himanshu Pathak, Secretary (DARE) and Director General (ICAR), during the valedictory session of the event. Other dignitaries on the dais included Dr. Rajbir Singh, Deputy Director General (Agriculture Extension), Dr. Devendra Kumar Yadava, Deputy Director General (Crop Science), and Dr. CH. Srinivasa Rao, Director of IARI, New Delhi. This recognition highlights the commitment of these farmers towards innovation, sustainability, and the enhancement of agricultural practices in Coastal India.
