ICAR-KVK, CCARI, North Goa conducted training on Goats in collaboration with Andhra Pradesh Sheep and Goat Cooperative Federation Limited
ICAR-CCARI, KVK, North Goa, organized a three-day training program on ‘Scientific Management of Goats’ from 17 to 19 March 2025. The valedictory session was graced by Dr. Parveen Kumar, Director of ICAR-CCARI, Goa, as the Chief Guest. He distributed certificates to the participants, including six Board of Directors and one Ex-Chairman of the Andhra Pradesh Sheep and Goat Cooperative Federation Limited, and two Assistant Directors from the Department of Animal Husbandry, Andhra Pradesh. Dr. Parveen Kumar assured a collaborative, farmer-centric research initiative in animal husbandry for the coastal states of Andhra Pradesh and promised technical support under SCSP and other Institutional plans.
Earlier, experts engaged with the participants and shared their insights. Dr. N. Bommayasamy, Senior Scientist and Head of KVK North Goa, emphasised the benefits of rearing of Black Bengal and Malabari goats in the coastal districts of Andhra Pradesh to improve the income of goat farmers. Dr. Solomon Rajkumar, Senior Scientist (Livestock Products Technology) elaborated on goat meat marketing opportunities, emphasizing value addition to goat meat. He also discussed scientific slaughtering, packaging, and marketing techniques, urging the Federation to adopt innovative ideas to boost the profitability of goat farmers in Goa. Dr. Gokuldas P. P. Senior Scientist (Animal Reproduction) explained the technical aspects of artificial insemination in goats, highlighting its scope and importance for the future of goat farming. Dr. Udharwar Sanjaykumar Vithalrao, Subject Matter Specialist (Animal Science) and Course Director, conducted hands-on training on preparing low-cost concentrate feed, making silage and cultivating hybrid Napier fodders. He also discussed scientific feeding practices to improve breeding, kidding, and overall productivity in goats. Mr. Rahul Kumar, SMS (Agronomy), delivered a lecture on the importance of Azolla in goat feed. The training program was coordinated by Dr. Udharwar S.V., Dr N.Bommayasamy, Mr. Rahul Kumar, Mr. Rahul Kulkarni, and Mr. Vishwajeet Prajapati.
