Animal Health Camp Conducted at Mayem under TDC–NICRA

ICAR-Krishi Vigyan Kendra, North Goa, and ICAR–Central Coastal Agricultural Research Institute (CCARI), Goa, organized an Animal Health Camp on June 25, 2025, at Mayem village, Bicholim taluka, under the Technology Demonstration Component (TDC) of the National Innovations in Climate Resilient Agriculture (NICRA) project. The camp was conducted in collaboration with the Department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Services (AHVS), Government of Goa, Goa Dairy, and the Agricultural Technology Management Agency (ATMA), North Goa.

During the Animal Health Camp, Dr Bommayasamy, Senior Scientist and Head of ICAR-KVK, North Goa, urged farmers to actively utilize the services and expertise provided by KVK to enhance livestock health and productivity. He emphasized KVK's pivotal role in promoting sustainable and disease-free livestock farming practices, especially in the face of increasing climate variability. He stressed that adopting climate-resilient livestock strategies is essential for ensuring long-term productivity, profitability, and animal welfare.

Dr. Udharwar Sanjaykumar Vithalrao, Subject Matter Specialist (Animal Science), performed per rectal pregnancy diagnosis in 10 dairy cows and administered anthelmintic treatment (deworming) to over 60 calves. More than 120 cows were examined, and scientific advice was provided on enhancing lactation performance through balanced nutrition, mastitis prevention, and improved husbandry practices. Veterinary medicines, including broad-spectrum anthelmintics, hepatoprotective liver tonics, oral calcium supplements, and multivitamins, were distributed to the animals. Additionally, over 150 backyard poultry birds were supplemented with nutritional tonics and multivitamins, and farmers were advised on biosecurity, vaccination protocols, and disease prevention measures for improved flock health.

A total of 21 farmers (including three women and 18 men) benefited from the camp. The program also focused on building awareness about clean milk production, reproductive management, strategic deworming schedules, and preventive healthcare practices for livestock and poultry. The event was successfully organized and coordinated by Dr Udharwar S.V., Mr Rahul Kumar, Mr Vishwajeet Prajapati, and Dr N. Bommayasamy.
