Field Day on Konkan Kanyal Goat farming organized by ICAR-KVK, CCARI North Goa

ICAR-Krishi Vigyan Kendra, North Goa, ICAR–Central Coastal Agricultural Research Institute (CCARI), Goa, organized a Field Day on Konkan Kanyal Goat farming on 25th June 2025 at Mayem village, Bicholim taluka, North Goa. The program was conducted under the Technology Demonstration Component (TDC) of the National Innovations in Climate Resilient Agriculture (NICRA) project in collaboration with the Department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Services (AHVS), Government of Goa, Goa Dairy, and the Agricultural Technology Management Agency (ATMA), North Goa.

Dr N. Bommayasamy, Senior Scientist and Head of KVK North Goa, emphasized the importance of conducting field days in Konkan Kanyal goat farming, as it is a powerful strategy to bridge the divide between scientific research and daily farming practices. It enhances farmer confidence, fosters innovation, and supports the development of productive and sustainable goat farming systems in rural communities.

Dr. Udharwar Sanjaykumar Vithalrao, Subject Matter Specialist (Animal Science), enlightened the performance and adaptability of Konkan Kanyal goats distributed under the Frontline Demonstration (FLD) program. He shared the success story of Mr Aniruddha Gaonkar, a progressive farmer from Mayem, who is currently rearing two female and one male Konkan Kanyal goats. One female has recently given birth to a healthy kid, and the other is currently in gestation. During the field day on goat farming, Mr Aniruddha Gaonkar, a progressive farmer, shared his inspiring journey and practical insights into successful goat farming.

Dr. Gaytridas Gauthankar, Veterinary Officer, Bicholim, briefed the participants on various government schemes, training opportunities, and support programs related to goat rearing, available through the Department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Services (AHVS), Government of Goa. The program witnessed active participation from 17 farmers (including seven women and 10 men) and seven officials from ICAR-CCARI, the Department of AHVS, and ATMA–North Goa. The event was effectively coordinated by Dr Udharwar S.V., Mr Rahul Kumar, Mr Vishwajeet Prajapati, and Dr N. Bommayasamy.
