ICAR-CCARI and ICFRE-IWST Organised Training Programme on Bamboo Cultivation

 

    ICAR–Central Coastal Agricultural Research Institute, Goa and ICFRE-Institute of Wood Science and Technology, Bengaluru, jointly organised a one-day training programme on “Nursery Management and Value Addition of Bamboo” at ICAR–KVK, North Goa, on 26 June 2025. The programme was inaugurated by Dr. Parveen Kumar, Director, ICAR–CCARI, Goa. In his address, he highlighted the vital role of bamboo in enhancing rural livelihoods and promoting sustainable development. He also emphasised its potential in beach tourism and encouraged farmers in Goa to cultivate bamboo and contribute towards Atma nirbhar (self-reliant) bamboo sector in Goa. Dr. Vipin Kumar Chawla, Scientist F, IWST Bengaluru, provided an overview of the programme, stating that it was conducted under the CAMPA initiative. In his technical lecture, he focused on bamboo composite technologies for industrial applications and underlined the growing relevance of bamboo in housing and tourism. Dr. Bommayasamy N, Senior Scientist and Head, ICAR-KVK, North Goa, welcomed the participants and shared a brief overview of the KVK’s activities. Dr. Sandeep Chakraborty, Senior Technical Officer, IWST Bengaluru, delivered a detailed session on vegetative propagation techniques of bamboo under nursery conditions. A total of 100 farmers, farm enthusiasts, self-help group members, and staff from the Forest Department and Education Department from Goa participated in the programme. The event was coordinated by Dr. Vipin Kumar Chawla, Dr. Bommayasamy N,  Dr. Uthappa A.R., Dr. Sandeep Chakraborty, Mrs Mamatha, M and Shri Aishwar Tiwari.
